History of BTG
BACK TO GODHEAD magazine first appeared in India in 1944, a small black and white publication on spirituality and the real purpose of life. Despite lack of funds and facilities, Vaishnava saint and eminent scholar A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada continued to produce it -- he felt it contained a message the world needed to hear.
Now BTG covers all aspects of spirituality, philosophy and devotional practices as taught by Sri Krishna and later introduced to the western world by Srila Prabhupada. Some recurring features include lectures by Prabhupada, tours of Indian holy places, interviews with practitioners of Bhakti-yoga (the devotional path of Krishna devotees), Krishna conscious perspectives on issues of the day, excerpts from Vedic scriptures, and tips on practicing spiritual life in the modern age.

Purpose of BTG
1. To help all people discern reality from illusion, spirit from matter, the eternal from the temporary.
2. To expose the faults of materialism.
3. To offer guidance in the Vedic techniques of spiritual life.
4. To preserve and spread the Vedic culture.
5. To celebrate the chanting of the holy names of God as taught by Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.To help every living being remember and serve Shri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

# "This Back to Godhead will always remain the backbone of the Society(ISKCON) because the more the magazine is popular the more our Society becomes popular.” [Srila Prabhupada 30th Jan. 1967]".
# I am awaiting for the day when this paper(BTG) will take the shape of Times Magazine or similar other magazines, in the matter of its popularity.” [Srila Prabhupada to Rayarama, 12th June, 1968]".
# To make this magazine(BTG) a great success is very, very important to the mission. And you along with your co-workers are doing it very nicely. And Krishna will bless you; please continue to do it." [Srila Prabhupada to Madhusudana, 20th Nov. 1968]".
# Therefore, when Back to Godhead will be published not in hundreds and thousands, but in millions, that will give me great solace.” [Srila Prabhupada to Madhudvisa, 14th April, 1970].
